Abstract

In this study, a mathematical model of PV panel coupled electrolyzer system model is developed in MATLAB/Simulink environment to optimize the hydrogen production. A maximum power point tracking (MPPT) algorithm is applied to make more effective use of photovoltaic power for hydrogen production. It is found that the DC/DC buck converter with MPPT control can better adapt to PV and electrolysis. What’s more, the system is used for a 0.5 MW photovoltaic array and it could produce 2 × 107 L of hydrogen in a month.
