Abstract

An improved low frequency slotted bow-tie antenna and a novel artificial magnetic conductor reflector were proposed. The antenna mental patch is slotted to reduce the antenna working frequency band without enlarging the size. The artificial magnetic conductor reflects electromagnetic wave on its surface in-phase in specific frequency band. The reflector is designed for improving the gain of antenna by reflecting the wave in-phase. The slotted bow-tie antenna loaded with artificial magnetic conductor reflector works between 566 MHz to 1.177 GHz. Its gain is increased by 5 dB and its front-to-back ratio is 12-16 dB at from 500 MHz to 900 MHz frequency band. The antenna system is suitable for the application of ground penetrating radar.
