Abstract
A simple electronic servo circuit which improves the long term frequency stability of an internal-mirror two-mode (633 nm) He-Ne laser has been developed. Because the thermal expansion of a laser cavity is quadratic in the heater current the effective gain of a thermal servo circuit depends on the room temperature. The presented circuit, which eliminates frequency drifts caused by room temperature variations, employs the feedback signal originating from the heater current. The frequency separation between modes from two thermally stabilized lasers can be kept constant within ±5 MHz although the surrounding temperature for one of the lasers decreases about four degrees.
