Abstract

A novel scheme is proposed and demonstrated for frequency sextupling optical millimeter-wave generation based on dual-parallel Mach-Zehnder Modulator (MZM) without optical filtering. The sextupling optical mm-wave with data only carried by one sideband is generated, theoretical analysis and simulation verification are provided for the frequency multiplication scheme. Furthermore, a 2.5 Gb/s data transmission performances are evaluated, the data signal could be transmitted 160 Km with the proposed scheme at BER = 10−9, while the distribution distance is less than 30 Km with the traditional scheme to obtain identical BER.
