Abstract

The count-rate discriminator, CoRaD, was developed for use with the x-ray microprobe and scanning electron microscope. It is a digital device that facilitates the production of background-free x-ray scanning images. It has been used to great advantage in analyzing multiphase specimens containing the same elements in different proportions. CoRaD permits the selective display of any one phase exclusive of the others. When CoRaD is interfaced to three scalers, the volume fraction and mean particle size of selected phases can be determined.
