Abstract

The LiNi0.8Co0.1Mn0.1O2 was coated by a lithium-ion conductor Li3PO4 layer using a simple and efficient coating method. The Ni0.8Co0.1Mn0.1(OH)2 precursor serves as a coating target, and Li3PO4 was deposited on its surface. This method avoids forming lithium residuals and twice calcination process. The electrochemical measurements demonstrated the electrochemical performance of LiNi0.8Co0.1Mn0.1O2 is greatly enhanced by coating with lithium ion conductor Li3PO4, especially at high work potential. It can be ascribed to the Li3PO4 acted as a protection layers to reduce the side reactions between the cathode material and electrolyte, and therefore reduced the surface and charge transfer resistance during cycling. Besides that, the high lithium ion conductor characteristics of Li3PO4 coating layer are beneficial to improve the diffusion coefficient of lithium ions.
