Abstract

The MWCNTs were purified by acid treatment using nitrating mixture. The Morphology and structure of perstine MWCNTs and purified MWCNTs were characterized by Scanning Electron Microscope and Transmission Electron Microscope. Energy Dispersive X-ray analysis of MWCNTs before and after acid treatment revealed that acid treatment could removal of encapsulated catalyst particles. XRD pattern of purified sample indicates that the Fe peaks have been decreased. This confirms that purification process is effectively reducing Fe component. The purified- MWCNTs is dispersed in alkali media and used for the preparation of modified carbon paste electrodes for the electrochemical detection of dopamine (DA). Electrochemical parameters, such as the surface area of the electrode, and the lower detection limit, were calculated and compared with those of the MCPE prepared from purified- MWCNTs treated with NaOH and KOH. KOH treated MCPE shows increase in surface area when compare to bare-CPE, P-MWCNT/NaOH-MCPE. The analytical performance is also evaluated for the detection of DA in dopamine hydrochloride injection sample at modified electrodes.
