Abstract

The coating materials which have better resistance to corrosive media such as calcium magnesium alumina silicate (CMAS) in the harsh environment and at high temperature are the basic need of time for aerospace applications. In this regard, a novel (Er0.2Tm0.2Yb0.2Dy0.2Y0.2)2SiO5 or ((5RE0.2)2SiO5) high entropy monosilicate fabricated through a single-step solid solution method. The better single-phase structure and good mixing of rare earth oxides were checked through XRD and SEM analysis. The anti-corrosion properties of this novel high entropy monosilicate was checked through CMAS attack on the surface at 1300 °C temperatures for different times between 2 h to 48 h. The results revealed that the material shows better resistance against CMAS even for a long period 48 h and a little CMAS penetrate after 48 h just about 30–35 μm which is the lowest value so far for any high entropy monosilicate material. This (5RE0.2)2SiO5 material is a suitable candidate to be used as an environmental barrier coating for a long time and at high temperatures.
