Abstract

The contact problem for strip rolling in plane deformation is analytically solved for zones with variable frictional forces, when using Mises plasticity conditions. A method of plotting the contact-stress curves is developed. The conditions in which slip and retardation zones exist are established, and their dimensions are determined. The position of the neutral cross section is found. Replacement of the precise plasticity condition by an approximate condition in terms of primary stress when the deformation regions are short reduces the calculated rolling force by 30–40%.
