Abstract

New boilers for the ebulliometric determination of vapour pressures are described. Their performance is illustrated by the comparison of vapour pressure values obtained for benzene with others already published in the range 70-1500 mmHg. The lower limit of pressure of the ebulliometric method is determined by the onset of bumping: particularly troublesome when water is the standard substance in the comparative method. The boiler currently in use has given smooth boiling of water at pressures down to 15 mmHg.
