Abstract

There has recently been progress in the calculation of the twist-two piece of the quark-parton distribution functions in models like the MIT bag. These calculations use the Peierls-Yoccoz approximation to project out eigenstates of momentum in order to evaluate the required matrix elements of the quark field operators. However, there exists a better method of projecting momentum eigenstates from the model wavefunctions, namely the Peierls-Thouless projection. We apply this method for the MIT bag model and find significant differencesin the distribution functions calculated using the two different approximations for the momentum eigenstates.
