Abstract

It is common knowledge that, in the field of mineral processing in South Africa and elsewhere, the direct milling of run-of-mine ore is receiving ever-increasing attention because of certain favourable attributes when compared with conventional processes in which a crushing step preceeds the milling operation. With this in view and also with a view to a better understanding of the operation of existing direct milling installations, efforts have been aimed at improved measuring facilities in order to correlate cause with effect. In this connection the importance and value of the P.S.M. 100 continuous particle size analyser is illustrated and improvements in operation and control that have resulted from its installation are described.
