Abstract

Impregnation of Douglas fir wood of the native regional grown type (Tonya-Trabzon Olmympia: A2 origin) were subjected in this study aimed at effective industrial usages of the wood as an exotic and rapid grown species. Result indicated that, douglas fir wood originated from Olmpia: A2 (Tonya district in Trabzon) is somewhat at lower density and having higher lumen volume than European and American douglas types (P. taxifolia). Treatments with aqeous and PEG-400 solutions of boron compounds and/or some water repellents confirmed the exectation of easy penetration and diffusion into the dry wood by vacuum-diffusion process based on the determined anatomical and physical properties.
