Abstract

This paper discusses the importance of sustainable entrepreneurship development in impoverished communities in South Africa with specific interest in Mpumalanga, region of Kwamhlanga-Moloto Village. This community is one that is defined as an informal settlement in the South African context. Kwamhlanga-Moloto Village suffers more or less the same problems faced by many South African communities, despite South Africa’s political transformation, the majority of its people still face undesirable living conditions and have to contend with wide range of development problems such as poverty and joblessness, unsafe and unhealthy living and working environments, crime and the scourge of HIV/AIDS, to name few. After thorough observations and interviews with community leaders and community members the researcher compiled this paper on how they can encourage and sustain entrepreneurship within themselves. There are developments that are being visible since the post apartheid government, infrastructures and economical improvements. The paper further attempt to get to the depth of entrepreneurship activities in Kwamhlanga-Moloto Village and how it can be sustained and developed. Recommendations will then be made for community leaders and government of Kwamhlanga-Moloto Village to utilize available abundant resources, such as tourism, agriculture, arts and culture to create and sustain entrepreneurship activities. The paper emphasized the need for all stakeholders at Kwamhlanga-Moloto Village to work together in an attempt towards sustainable entrepreneurship development.
