Abstract

At present, successful companies are those which, compared to their competitors, are concerned with aspects of sustainable development. Indeed, the practice of sustainable development is more or less used by PMEs to distinguish themselves and preserve their image. But the question is how do PMEs integrate themselves into the practice of sustainable development? Sustainable development could be considered as a new project for society, a new stage in the organisation of human activities, which requires cultural factors to be taken into account, because taking sustainable development into account is first and foremost a matter of culture before becoming an economic concern. Based on the hypothesis that the culture of sustainable development holds an important place in the integration of companies in the practice of sustainable development, the objective of this study is to analyse qualitatively, through the results of interviews with twenty Malagasy PMEs, the importance of the culture of sustainable development in the practice of sustainable development.
