Importance of English Language in Modern World and ELLs ChallengesA Review

Abstract

English is considered as the most important language all over the world. It is an international language and several types of English speaking people are living around the world. Sometimes it is referred to as accents and is spoken by people in every real life situations. English language is divided in to two types namely American English and British English. The usage of English is entirely different among the people, not only in pronunciation but also in sentence structure, slang and vocabulary. This review article is based on the importance of English language in day today life. It also details an overview of English Language Learners (ELLs) in all parts of the world. This analysis also describes the challenges faced by a large number of ELLs. They go to foreign country for studies or jobs and stay there for more than six years, yet they are not developing their English language proficiency. A large number of people are still struggling without having proper English knowledge which is essential for academic and professional success. Hence, these ELLs require additional time, aligned assessments and appropriate instructional support for their higher growth and to obtain both content area knowledge and English language proficiency.
