Abstract
An analysis is made of the implications for high energy cosmic ray phenomena of the interaction models of Pati and Salam. The effect on the size spectrum of showers, the energy spectrum and angular distribution of high energy muons and the longitudinal developments of showers is considered. It is shown that the muon data enable a lower limit of 7*103 GeV to be placed on the total energy in the centre-of-mass system for the onset of the phase where leptonic and semi-leptonic processes become strong.
