Abstract

The absolute abundance of 14 rare earth elements, Y, and Sc was determined by neutron activation analysis in two nakhlitic achondrites. Normalized abundances were compared with data for 18 chondritic meteorites, 3 calcium-poor achondrites, 3 calcium-rich achondrites, and terrestrial basalts. The possibility is discussed of a lunar origin of meteorites, with volcanic action on the moon causing the smooth fractionation so similar to terrestrial basalts. (C.H.)
