Abstract

It is generally agreed that reptilian enamel is devoid of prisms. However an etching of teeth shows that reptilian enamel consists of an outer homogeneous layer which overlaps an inner prismatic layer. The examination of the unetched outer surface of living taxa or well preserved fossil teeth does not reveal the presence of inner prisms.
