Abstract

ABSTRACT In 2018, the American Psychological Association published Guidelines for Psychological Practice with Boys and Men, in which there was only one mention of issues related to body image. This commentary explores the effects of body image concerns on men, with a particular focus on the experiences of sexual minority men. Using minority stress theory as a framework, this article aims to highlight the myriad negative mental and physical health outcomes related to body image concerns and eating disorder symptomatology in sexual minority men. Recommendations are provided to guide psychological practice related to body image concerns in sexual minority men.
