Abstract
For information processing to be effective in today's computer environment, the programming language used must be capable of interaction. This requires that the language be able to handle dialogue between the user and the computer. Since COBOL is currently the predominant language used in business information systems, this article examines the COBOL language as to its capabilities for interaction in terms of five currently popular dialogue styles and shows how each style can be implemented in COBOL programming.
