Abstract

Older adults are at increased risk of emergency department (ED) visits and hospitalizations after systemic therapy [1]. Recent studies have shown proactive phone calls after systemic therapy could reduce ED visits and help with symptom management [1–3]. The Older Adults with Cancer Clinic (OACC) did not utilize telephone follow-up guidelines as recommended in the literature. To assist with ongoing nursing support, the Canadian Oncology Symptom Triage and Remote Support (COSTaRS) practice guides were implemented, which include remote symptom assessment management guidelines for nurses [4].
