Abstract

Background: The screening guidelines endorsed by the AAP, AAFP and the U.S. Preventative Services Task Force include routine screening for Chlamydia trachomatis in all sexually active females under age 25 annually. The reason for this recommendation is based on the data that Chlamydia trachomatis is the most common reportable sexually transmitted disease in the United States and screening for chlamydia is one of the most cost-effective preventative health services that our health system can offer.
