Abstract
This article describes a prototype automated shelflist presently containing about one thousand records. The planning and theory behind the decision to develop the system out of readily available commercial software are discussed as are modes of use and their relation to collection development, collection management, and public access. Attention is given, as well, to help assure the evolution of the best system possible for the needs of a selective depository.
