Abstract
This article describes the implementation of a retailing enterprise by a medium-sized Polish state company during the first stage of the economic reform in Poland, 1981–1983. The behavior described represented a strategic innovation for the firm. The possibilities and constraints in the making of certain retailing decisions in a centrally planned economy are reviewed.
