Abstract

A Master's Degree Program in Computer Science has been implemented which includes a curricular option for educators. It is designed to be responsive to the needs of prospective computer science educators in the region determined by a survey of school systems conducted recently. In addition, analysis of responses and requests for professional development workshops and inservice courses indicated high interest and need for such a curriculum. A review of the literature further indicated a dearth of programs in existence which would fill this need. Further review of curricula at colleges and universities around the nation which provided such programs revealed a curriculum base from which the faculty as a group developed a progression of courses leading to a Master's Degree in Computer Science for teachers at all levels of education--elementary through post secondary. Implementation of the program required faculty and student recruitment, advisement of students and establishment of research and development facilities and an ongoing system of program evaluation.
