The transition management industry has changed significantly during the last five years. Many investors now rely on transition managers to help retain as much portfolio value as possible, as they make various manager changes and asset allocation moves. Specific needs have also evolved with the changing demands of the institutional marketplace, and the transition industry is adapting to the shifting landscape. One recent institutional trend in which the role of the transition manager is a key success factor centers around the implementation of portable alpha strategies. This article describes one such case and the novel transition solution that made the difference between a comprehensive investment solution and a standardized transition proposal.
