Abstract

Automation of a manual operation in the automotive lead/acid battery assembly line is described in the paper. The working operation - setting of the polypropylene lids on the battery containers is automated using a small-size industrial robot. Active and passive compliance strategies are considered as possible approaches to the robot lid setting. Furthermore, the design of the workcell peripheral devices - two lid feeders and development of special robot gripper intended for sensory supported lid assembly are presented.
