Abstract

In 1996, a consortium of state and professional associations, the Interstate School Leaders Licensure Consortium, published a comprehensive set of Standards for School Leaders. The purpose of this paper is to provide some early indications about how the Standards are being employed to strengthen educational leadership throughout the nation. As background, there are a brief review of the foundations upon which the Standards rest and an outline of the framework for change that has guided efforts to yoke the Standards to the carriage of professional improvement.
