Abstract

This manuscript focuses on designing digital circuits (registers) using the digital Integrated Circuit (IC) with fixed-function in order to perform the specific behaviour for storing and shifting data, as well and their simulation by computer simulation program. A large number of fixed-function integrated circuits can be used to perform the specific functions according to designer’s requirements, depending on digital system applications. It is very important that before manual hardware implementations, the circuit designers simulate the designed circuits by suitable software tools with the aim to test their operations for specific conditions of operations. The fixed-function IC 74HC194 can be configured to perform the bidirectional universal shift register with several modes of the bit data movement, and it can be used to implement bidirectional universal shift registers with higher capacity, according to the specific cases of the operation. Using the CAD (Computer Aided Design) tools during designing phase by circuit designers significantly improves the efficiency of the digital systems depending on their applications. The achieved results after simulating the desired designed circuits will help the circuit designers to test the performance, as well to detect any mistakes during designing phase.
