Abstract

This paper describes the steps of developing a Plan Position Indicator (PPI) radar display to be used on military ships. The PPI radar display system is a display of radar data in a polar coordinate representation. The PPI radar display is one of the most critical parts of the radar system, which provides information of the detection results of radar signal reflection objects. This PPI radar display system is built from a sea surveillance PPI radar display system that we developed previously. The added function is the integration of ship navigation sensor data by adjusting the communication protocol of the ship navigation sensor in the form of RS 422 to RS 232. Also, data extraction of sensors available in NMEA format is needed. ADAM 6052 and 6017 are required for RF system measurement interfaces and gain level setting in the radar transmitter. This system is also equipped with object tracking function, Guard Zone, and alarm. The method of calculating the location of pixels and azimuths, as well as the threshold in this study produces a good object reflection data plotting so that the PPI display application can be applied on the actual military ship.
