Abstract

Progressing cavity pump artificial lift method is very efficient in the production of oils with high viscosity and oils which carry a great amount of sand. This characteristic converted this lift method into the second most useful one in oil fields production. The greater the number of applications of progressing cavity pumping method, the greater the necessity of specifying the best operational set point in order to optimize the oil production. This paper presents the simulation and application of a PI-fuzzy controller and the PI-conventional control to optimize pumping velocity to achieve productivity and durability of downhole components. These two techniques are compared through simulation and field implementation results are presented.
