Abstract

The concept of lean manufacturing was developed for maximizing the resource utilization through minimization of waste, later on lean was formulated in response to fluctuating and competitive business environment. Due to rapidly changing business environment the organizations are forced to face challenges and complexities. We took time study for various operations of connecting rod manufacturing in an industry. After the analysis of time study we found, which factors affect the manufacturing time among different operators and operations. Also we draw the cause and effect diagram and identify the reasons of the process. From that we slightly modify the sequence of operations and again we took the time study. By using the software we found out the optimum layout for manufacturing the connecting rod. Also we found the Failure Mode Effect Analysis (FMEA) for the connecting rod and find the risk priority. Finally, we reduce the manufacturing time of the component and increase the productivity of the industry.
