Abstract
This paper focuses on the main aspects of using distance learning for the English language training (ELT) in the Ukrainian professional military education (PME) institutions. It examines the major challenges and key problems while implementing the tools and models of distance English language training, introduces the recommendations for further developing such tools and models of training in the professional military education institutions, analyzes the peculiarities of distance learning, which provide flexibility in choosing the time of self-education for cadets and increase the effectiveness of ELT in Ukrainian PME institutions.

In addition to its educational function as a Ukrainian professional military education (PME) institution, it’s a military unit where military service, daily and educational activities of servicemen are organized. It is not possible in the condition of the pandemic caused by Covid-19 to transfer cadets completely to distance learning with exemption them from military service as other educational institutions which have changed full-time education into distance
That’s why Ukrainian PME institutions work in the usual format: classes are held for whole cadet units
Summary
In today's reality, we face certain challenges that were unpredictable recently. The rapid dynamics of technology development, the emergence of dangerous threats, including pandemics, encourages finding new ways for education and selfimprovement. Consider the features of the use of distance learning methods in the study of English in higher education. The distance learning platform of the Armed Forces of Ukraine provides an opportunity to master many courses, including English.
