Abstract

Transition from a paper-driven system to a computerized clinical record is one of the most significant performance improvement activities in which any home health care organization may embark. Implementation of computerized documentation is a change that will impact virlually every aspect of operations within the organization. Although selection of hardware and sof tware is critical, the ultimate success of the project is dependent upon the commitment and effort of the people within the organization. This article will focus on one home care organization's experience implementing laptop technology. The results of this performance improvement activity include increased productivity of both in-of fice and field staff, decreased aggregate visit costs, and continued staff and patient satisfaction.
