Abstract

Smart Grid is an emergent technology which has the premise of delivering electricity from suppliers to consumers using digital technology to save energy, to reduce cost and to increase reliability. In our previous work, we developed an Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) emulator which emulates the salient features of the AMI and employs a static forwarding mechanism in the smart meter communication network. We improve upon this work by implementing a routing protocol for the AMI emulator based on the Routing Protocol for Low-Power and Lossy Networks (RPL), making our system more scalable and fault-tolerant. Our RPL implementation is reliable, fast, and optimal for low-power devices.
