Abstract

This paper reviews the Western Electricity Coordination Council (WECC) Reliability Coordination Function's project of building and implementing one fully operational West-wide System Model (WSM) for Western Interconnection reliability monitoring. Since January 1, 2009, the WSM has been operational, and implemented with online advanced Energy Management System (EMS) applications and other supporting tools. This paper also introduces WECC's experience in both modeling improvement and EMS applications solution tuning. Further, it discusses an established EMS model update process and the future direction of model sharing among WECC members. Finally, it presents a visualization of the WSM EMS solutions, by examples.
