Abstract

Djoko Widodo, as the new Jakarta Governor, replacing Fauzi Bowo, has introduced several initiatives to reform his local government's performances. In fact, in his decisions and actions, he focused on improving the practices of good governance. Due to the reason that to push good governance in his administration needed a strong political will from a leader, a study how the Jakarta governor used his political authority to achieve his objective becomes an important matter. This study applies a qualitative approach in addition to an earlier library study conducted by the writer. This study concludes that Governor Djoko Widodo was not strong enough in using his political authority to adopt the principles of good governance, i.e. the rule of law, transparency, consensus, accountability, and a strategic vision.
