Abstract
The Intensive Care Unit (ICU) is a place of high technological complexity that frequently provokes feelings such as anguish, insecurity and fear in the patients’ relatives. The purpose of this study was to analyze the contribution of implanting care technologies for patients admitted in the ICU and their relatives during a hospitalization process. This is a qualitative approach based on Travelbee's Interpersonal Relation Theory, carried out with relatives of patients admitted in the ICU of a University Hospital. From the analysis, the following categories were evidenced: Appreciating the interactions in the ICU; Preparing relatives for the visit; and Evaluating the care technologies. To implement care technologies from a proposal of relationship person to person represents the construction of a continuous and growing process of approach, dialogue and humanization of the atmosphere. That explains the ethical dimension of the use of care technologies, such as the nursing knowledge, which is justified for meeting the need of care for our clients, users and family, therefore, actions less verticalized, in a permanent reflection process, interpretation and construction.

RESUMO A unidade de terapia intensiva (UTI), por ser local de alta complexidade tecnológica, frequentemente provoca sentimentos como angústia, insegurança e medo nos familiares de usuários ali internados. O oferecimento desse manual de ajuda aos familiares de pacientes internados em UTIs como uma tecnologia de cuidado significa não apenas uma tentativa de sistematizar informações e algumas normas de funcionamento dessa unidade, mas uma possibilidade de humanizar a relação dos trabalhadores com a família, com vistas a minimizar a ansiedade tanto dos familiares quanto do usuário, favorecendo o acolhimento e o acompanhamento de ambos na admissão e durante as visitas buscando identificar possíveis necessidades e estratégias de cuidado, de modo a proporcionar-lhes melhores condições de convivência e enfrentamento da situação. A análise dos dados foi realizada a partir da interpretação dos significados e valores expressos pelos familiares, para identificar as possíveis contribuições da implementação das tecnologias de cuidado no estabelecimento das relações interpessoais com vista à tomada de decisões e ações na relação com os usuários internados na UTI e seus familiares.
