Abstract

A impedance source converter which is suitable for grid-connected Photovoltaic (PV) applications is presented in this paper. In this work, the modelling and simulation of a single-phase impedance source inverter suitable for interfacing the PV System with the grid and its control methods are presented. The design of an impedance network coupled with a single phase full bridge inverter is modelled and a closed loop control has been designed in the MATLAB/Simulink environment. The impedance source converter is capable of boosting the input voltage in a one stage structure which is not possible in conventional voltage source or current source inverters hence, the impedance source inverter overcomes the limitations present in conventional inverters. The simulation results given demonstrate the features of impedance source inverter for different solar irradiance. Battery energy storage is introduced to compensate the intermittency of the PV system. Simulation results confirms that the converter is able to supply the grid through the Z source inverter under various operating conditions.
