Abstract

The surface impedance offered to an external field by a highly absorbing wedge is determined. Over most of a side the impedance is effectively constant having the same value as if the side were an infinite plane interface. Near the edge, however, this is no longer true. Within a wavelength or so of the edge the impedance exhibits fluctuations and can depart quite widely from its constant value elsewhere. The large alteration to the phase as the position of the external excitation varies is particularly interesting.
