Abstract

The present work aims to present the main characteristics of the Passo da Areia Micro Basin from the implementation of the UFSM campus in Cachoeira do Sul-RS, highlighting the possible impacts caused. For this, a bibliographic survey was carried out on the municipality and also on the specific area of study, as well as the construction of thematic maps addressing some physical characteristics of the Micro Basin. Another aspect addressed was the evolution of the occupation from the installation of the campus in 2014. This evolution was observed through satellite images and also with fieldwork. It was noticed that there is a greater probability of urban expansion for this area after the installation of the Campus, but the negative impacts can be minimized from actions originating from the Campus itself, mainly referring to proposals and projects developed by the courses of Architecture and Urbanism, Transport and Logistics Engineering and Agricultural Engineering aimed at the local community. Thus, it can be said that the implementation of this Campus contributes positively to the ordering of the landscape of the Micro Basin under study.
