Abstract

Gaming operations of Native American tribes have become a major engine of economic development by generating significant revenues to tribes and outsiders. This paper investigates the impact of Native American enterprises on local economies by evaluating the impact of opening a Casino Resort near the City of Albuquerque, New Mexico. Specifically we evaluate the impact on the occupancy rates and the daily room rates for the hotels in the City. Our analysis concludes that the establishment of Indian casinos and resorts is generally beneficial for the wider regional tourism industry.
