Abstract
The benefits of female literacy are many and varied. One of the benefits of female literacy is healthier children. On the other hand, infant mortality is an important factor to measure the health status of a country. This study examined the impacts of female literacy rate on infant mortality rate in Bangladesh. Time-series data were used for the study from 1983 to 2016. The relationship between the dependent variable and the independent variables is analyzed through a multiple regression model. Different diagnostic tests were applied to justify the model, and all the econometric tests were done by Eviews-8 and SPSS-20. SPSS-20 software was also employed to prepare all the bar charts. The findings of the study suggested that there is a significant negative relationship between female literacy rate and infant mortality rate in Bangladesh. So, female education is the most crucial weapon for reducing infant mortality and improving the health status of Bangladesh.
