Abstract

The project management area is growing and the analysis of the contribution of a Project Management Office (PMO) in the performance of a public higher education institution (IPES) has the differential of evaluating and showing results, encouraging the modernization of public administration through Implementation of effective project management practices. This work brings real experience of performance measurement from the use of two analytical tools that allowed to measure and affirm that the PMO impacts the performance of the public organization. The study proposes to contribute to the reduction of a knowledge gap regarding project management in the public sector, answering the research question: How can the PMO impact the organizational performance of a public institution of higher education? The question was applied applied scientific research, with qualitative approach, exploratory nature and applied the action-research method. The article resulted in the suggestion of a method of measuring the performance of the public organization from the actions of the PMO. The contributions not only apply to the application in other organizational contexts but also discuss important points addressed in the academic literature.
