Abstract

The following paper is the summary of a research project studying the influence of several transportation infrastructure projects in the traffic conditions of the intersection of Av. Peru and Av. Proceres de la Independencia, located in the district of San Juan de Lurigancho (SJL), Lima, Peru. Thus, the paper provides the presentation of the study problem, considering the conditions and characteristics of the studied intersections; description of the vehicular flow, composed of traffic counts collected for the traffic study of the Santa Rosa – San Martin Interconection Tunnel project; and analysis of the current and future conditions, as well as the solution formulation. Therefore, the main objective of this work is to analyze the influence of the construction and opening of the transportation infrastructure projects in the traffic conditions, current and future, of the intersection of Av. Peru with Av. Proceres de la Independencia to evaluate its levels of service applying the HCM methodology. Lastly, it is important to mention that this work becomes one of the first attempts taken by some professionals in the country to retake this area of civil engineering, and start proposing the formulation of Traffic Impact Analysis (TIA) of high technical level that, within the appropriate conditions, may provide a future solution to the current uncontrolled and unplanned growth of the city of Lima (and other cities in the provinces)
