Abstract

Composite damage model considering the Weibull distribution of composite strengths was used for the low velocity impact and burst pressure analysis of composite pressure vessels. Failure criteria based on Hashin criteria were used for the prediction of composite damage and cohesive zone model was used to consider the delamination. The damage model was implemented in the user material subroutine of ABAQUS/explicit program, VUMAT. Impact and burst pressure analysis of composite pressure vessels were performed with ABAQUS/explicit program and the composite damage model. Impact behaviors and residual burst pressures were compared with test data for the verification of the damage model. Impact damage and their effects on impact behavior and burst pressure was investigated.
