Abstract

Recently, FACTS devices like the STATCOM is extensively used in power systems to provide flexible load flow control. The major impulse for selecting these devices in wind turbines its ability to provide bus bar system voltage either by supplying or absorbing system reactive power. The STATCOM application in wind turbines has been investigated to supply requirements of reactive power for wind farm under different operating status, therefore improving the steady-state stability of the utility grid. This article deals with the impact of wind farm with static compensator. Also this paper analyzes the fault characteristics observed at a system and the behavior of the STATCOM under fault events. And studies the stability of the system with and without STATCOM, and compares between two cases. The wind turbines (WTs) considered in this article is constant speed using a squirrel cage induction machine (SCIG). In this research the impact of wind farm based STATCOM system is investigated.
