Abstract

The purpose of the present study was investigating the effect of Vitis Vinifera Extract supplementation on electronegative low‐density lipoprotein (LDL(‐)). Brazilian healthy military without hyperglycemia, diabetes mellitus and endocrine disease were enrolled in this study. All subjects were high physically military trained. Fifty participants (ages: 18‐23 years; total body mass: 65‐78 kg) were enrolled in a double‐blinded, placebo‐controlled study using a crossover design. The participants received either supplemental (S, 205 mg one single dose) or placebo (P) on the begging of the training. After an overnight fast samples of whole blood were taken from a group of conscripts four times: at the beginning (T0, supplementation, n = 15), after 24h of intensify military activity (T1, n = 15), at the end of 48h of military training (T3, n = 13) and after 24h of rest. LDL(‐) levels was determined by ELISA. No differences were detected on the beginning of the military training between both groups (P: 1.18±0.45 U/L and S: 1.19±0.75 U/L). The placebo group presented a increased (p<0.05) levels of LDL(‐) during military training (T1=1.89±0.69 U/L; T2=2.95±1.32 U/L; T3=3.33±0.92 U/L). In the S group there was a decreased in the levels of LDL(‐) in T1 (0.69±0.62) and a increased in T2 and T3. But when we compared P x S, S presented a reduction in levels of LDL(‐). We may conclude that a single dose of 205 mg polyphenols was able to prevent a increasing levels of LDL(‐) in young military man during a intensive military training .
