Abstract

This Paper considers the impact of the Montreal Protocol on automotive air conditioning. It looks at the general design features of automotive air conditioning systems and their R12 consumption and emission. Potential controls for reducing R12 emission and consumption are outlined, including air conditioning system measures. It is concluded that the Montreal Protocol will definitely have a heavy impact on automotive air conditioning because of the high R12 consumption rate in the USA and Japan. Viewed in the light of the world-wide ties between the automobile industry and its suppliers, this impact will affect the parties concerned everywhere in the world.
